Capital isn't enough: Resilience relies on peer networks and community, too.

Challenge
Growth comes with isolation, especially in niche markets
At ICA Fund, we are on a mission to accelerate high-potential local businesses who are driving job creation and economic mobility in the Bay Area. Capital and coaching are essential to this mission but peer connection is a huge multiplier.
Running a scaling business can be a surprisingly lonely endeavor. Founders are always putting out fires, managing teams and vendors, and at the same time, trying to think strategically about the big picture, which leaves little time for connection with peers.
Traditional networking events can sometimes be too broad for growth-stage entrepreneurs, especially if they are in niche, underserved markets. So who better for them to connect with than another founder facing similar business and industry challenges?

APPROACH
Industry-focused peer-level exchange
We brought together an intentionally intimate, high-trust gathering designed for founders in a specific sector to facilitate real conversations between founders who are leading in their industry over a casual breakfast at our office.
In our July event we focused on early education and childcare entrepreneurs: ranging from EdTech platforms to local enrichments and childcare centers. We hosted 10 local founders who engaged in candid conversations around industry shifts, how to manage cash flow and funding dynamics, hiring and retention strategies, and adapting to enrollment structures with the implementation of Universal TK in California.

Outcome
Real conversations about real business challenges
The founders in attendance shared operational challenges and got actionable feedback from their peers in real-time. What it validated for us is that capital isn’t enough. Building long-term business resilience relies on having access to peer networks and communities too.
