Investment Partner

Location: Oakland, CA (Hybrid: in-office Tuesdays, Wednesdays, & Thursdays)

As the Senior Manager, Business Operating Network, you play a pivotal role in identifying, helping to vet and matching these critically important resources to small businesses that have the potential to make an even greater impact through their growth.

The Role

The Investment Partner is a senior leader at ICA, responsible for driving the sourcing, structuring, and execution of mission-aligned investments. Reporting directly to the CEO and working in close partnership with the Operating Partner, this person will set the strategic direction of ICA’s investment practice, manage the deal pipeline, and lead the investment team.

 The Investment Partner will bring deep networks and a proven track record of sourcing, evaluating, diligencing, underwriting, and closing high-quality deals. They will pitch deals directly to ICA’s Investment Committee, oversee reporting to ICA’s board and funders, and work with stakeholders to ensure transparency and accountability in ICA’s investment activities. Success in this role means delivering solid impact for founders and communities, alongside strong returns for ICA’s fund.

 Direct reports include the Business Development Leader and two Investment Associates.

 

Core Responsibilities

Strategic Investment Leadership

  • Develop and execute a comprehensive investment strategy that balances financial returns, social impact, and ICA’s mission.
  • Establish and refine investment policies, frameworks, and processes to guide ICA’s practice.
  • Identify gaps in the market whereICA can play a catalytic role
  • Develop and test innovative financial products and hybrid structures that address unmet needs in overlooked markets.
  • Prepare and deliver clear reporting on pipeline activity and closed investments for funders, the Board, and other stakeholders.

Investment Sourcing & Origination

  • Drive high-quality deal flow by leveraging personal networks, partnerships, and ecosystem relationships.
  • Collaborate with the BusinessDevelopment Leader to ensure a strong and mission-aligned sourcing pipeline.
  • Build co-investment relationships with VCs, CDFIs, family offices, and other capital partners.
  • Represent ICA at industry event sand forums, positioning ICA as a thought leader in impact investing.
  • Deal Structuring, Diligence & Execution
  • Lead end-to-end investment processes: sourcing, diligence, structuring, negotiation, and closing.
  • Design and execute creative capital structures across debt, equity, and hybrid instruments.
  • Oversee financial modeling, investment memoranda, and scenario analysis.
  • Pitch investment opportunities and portfolio strategy to ICA’s Investment Committee, providing clear, data-driven recommendations.
  • Ensure all investments align withICA’s dual goals of financial sustainability and measurable impact.
  • Founder Engagement & Value Creation
  • Build authentic, trust-based relationships with founders, developing a deep understanding of their businesses.
  • Ask sharp questions that surface insights into business models, leadership, and growth strategies.
  • Provide value-add by advising founders on capital strategy and connecting them to ICA’s networks and partners.

 Team Leadership & Development

  • Serve as a member of ICA’s senior leadership team, reporting directly to the CEO.
  • Lead and mentor the Business Development Leader and two Investment Associates.
  • Set clear goals, accountability, and development plans for the team.
  • Create a collaborative, rigorous, and impact-driven culture within ICA’s investment function.

 

Impact & Success Metrics

  • ICA has a clear, mission-aligned investment strategy with strong Board and IC support.
  • High-quality deal flow generated from ICA’s networks and sourcing partnerships.
  • Successful closing of innovative and well-structured investments across equity, debt, and hybrids.
  • Persuasive, high-quality investment memos and IC presentations that lead to efficient decision-making.
  • Regular, accurate reporting on pipeline and investments delivered to the Board, funders, and external stakeholders.
  • Portfolio companies demonstrate measurable gains in capital raised, revenue growth, profitability, and impact outcomes.
  • ICA achieves solid impact and strong financial returns, reinforcing its sustainability and leadership as an impact investor.
  • Associates and BusinessDevelopment Leader demonstrate professional growth and increased capacity under strong leadership.

 

Qualifications

Essential

  • Deep personal commitment to ICA’s mission of supporting overlooked and underestimated founders.
  • 10+ years of experience in venture capital, growth equity, private credit, CDFI lending, or impact investing.
  • Strong track record sourcing and closing investments; active networks in early- and growth-stage ecosystems.
  • Demonstrated ability to structure and negotiate complex deals across equity, debt, and hybrid instruments.
  • Advanced financial modeling and analysis skills; able to guide and review junior staff work.
  • Exceptional presentation and communication skills, including experience pitching to an Investment Committee or Board.
  • Proven leadership and team management experience.
  • Strong interpersonal EQ and ability to build trust with founders, co-investors, and colleagues.

Preferred

  • Experience with impact measurement frameworks.
  • Exposure to community development finance and catalytic capital approaches.
  • Thought leadership in innovative investment approaches.

Reporting & Structure

  • Reports to: Chief Executive Officer
  • Works closely with: Operating Partner
  • Direct reports: Business Development Leader, Investment Associate (2)

Compensation & Benefits

Salary: The annual base salary range for this full time position is $200,000 - $240,000, dependent upon background and experience. Compensation also includes a discretionary bonus paid annually based on organization and individual performance.
