ICA is a nationally recognized 501(c)3 organization that provides coaching, connections, and capital to accelerate great businesses in order to close the racial and gender wealth gaps. With a 25-year track record of supporting high-potential companies, ICA provides a continuum of support for underestimated entrepreneurs in the Bay Area through the combination of tailored accelerator programs – which provide hands-on advising and business education – and “right-sized” debt and equity investments.

Job Purpose

The ICA Programs Intern plays an integral role in supporting ICA’s pipeline development and program delivery. Additionally, the Programs Intern will be immersed in the ICA ecosystem, work closely with the full ICA team to support Bay Area businesses, and have the opportunity to work on interesting projects throughout the organization. The Programs Intern will report directly to the he Director of Programs.


Key Activities

Pipeline Development & Program Onboarding (50%)

  • Work with Program and Investment team to understand program and investment criteria
  • Research and outreach to new referral partners, industry groups, and organizations with
    access to small businesses that need support and capital
  • Research and outreach to small businesses on social media platforms
  • New company onboarding
  • Manage and track candidates via applications received
  • Prep applications for review
  • Send invites and declinations
  • Follow-up on application related questions

Programs Operations Support (30%)

  • The Lab: Weekly workshop support, as needed
  • Support with workshop prep and facilitator management
  • Attend and facilitate where needed
  • The Accelerator: workshop support, as needed
  • Support with workshop prep and facilitator management
  • Attend and facilitate where needed
  • Alumni Events, workshop support, as needed
  • Overall Workshop Admin
  • Program Admin: Backend workshop logistics including Zoom/ scheduling, .etc
  • Participants and facilitator coordination: calendaring, email responses where appropriate, troubleshooting

Events (10%)

  • Support in Program events, culmination, and pitch event
  • Represent ICA and report out on ecosystem calls (BOS+, Alice, Oakland Innovators, etc.)

Technology Management (10%)

  • Support with onboarding a new tech program management platform
  • Support on special projects on an ad hoc basis

Learning Opportunities

  • Observe investment and lending conversations/decisions
  • Observe ICA’s accelerator programs and advising sessions
  • Observe ecosystem partner conversations

Time Commitment & Compensation

October 2021 – December 2021, up to 20 hours/week; with the possibility to extend
$20/hr

Desired Qualifications

  • Undergraduate student; grad student preferred
  • Interest in small business development and investment
  • Experience working with underrepresented and/or minority groups and individuals that reflect the communities ICA supports are encouraged to apply
  • Interest in supporting underrepresented founders and increasing access to capital

Location

Primarily remote, but some travel to the ICA office in Oakland, CA may be required.
